5 eateries slated to open in 2023 in Montrose, River Oaks
What's coming in 2023: Several new restaurants and one dessert shop announced for the Montrose and River Oaks are expected to open in 2023, including Thai and Italian concepts and an all-day cafe.
🌽 Auden, which originally sought to open in spring 2022, is now looking at an early summer 2023 opening in the Autry Park mixed-use development at 3711 Autry Park Drive, Houston.
🍦 Lick Honest Ice Cream, an Austin-based artisanal ice cream shop that will open sometime in 2023. The business uses peak season ingredients coming from local farms and other Texas food producers.
🍜 The recently announcedMaKiin, an upscale Thai restaurant, is on target to open in the spring at 2651 Kipling St., Ste. 101, Houston, on the ground level of the Hanover River Oaks high-rise.
🍝 Underbelly Hospitality and chef Chris Davies will open Pastore in the spring at 1203 Dunlavy St., Ste. 100, Houston, bringing a menu with roots in Italian cuisine.
🌮 At first expected to open in November, all-day cafe Ojo de Agua will launch in early 2023 within the River Oaks District. The Mexico-based concept will be open for breakfast, lunch and dinner while also offering fresh juice, fruit drinks and smoothies.
👣 Texas-based flexible office space provider Common Desk is expanding its footprint at the Ion innovation hub in Houston, located at 4201 Main St., Ste. 200, Houston.
What's to come?
The expansion involves adding another 28,000 square feet on the fourth floor of the building, giving the company a total of more than 86,000 square feet.
The reason for the expansion:
Since the company launched at the Ion, its space reached full occupancy in less than a year, and officials said they are now managing a waiting list.
The expansion will offer more office suites sized for start-ups.
Texas Secretary of State John Scott to step down at end of year
After over a year in the role, Scott said he will step down Dec. 31 and return to his private legal practice in 2023. Scott oversaw Texas’ 2022 primary and midterm elections. He also led an audit of the 2020 elections in Collin, Dallas, Harris and Tarrant counties.

Texas Department of Transportation allocates $250M for walking, biking in 2023
The news: Pedestrian and cyclist fatalities have increased on Texas roads in recent years. In an attempt to change this, the Texas Department of Transportation is putting $250 million toward projects for sidewalks, bike lanes and other projects.
The statistics: In Texas, pedestrian deaths increased by 15% in 2021, while the deaths of cyclists increased by 14%, the release said.
Cities, towns and organizations across Texas can apply for project funding, according to the program’s website.
