Prosper ISD officials set maximum price for 19th, 20th elementary schools
Prosper ISD officials have taken the next step toward building two new campuses that will help address growth in the district.
What happened: The board of trustees approved the maximum price of the district’s 19th and 20th elementary schools Dec. 11. This allows no more than $39.48 million to be spent on Elementary School No. 19, and no more than $38.62 million to be spent on Elementary School No. 20.
The why: Hall Elementary School is experiencing increased enrollment due to the growth in the west side of the district, Deputy Superintendent Greg Bradley said.
Quote of note: "There is a lot of activity going on just west of the tollway, so we're going to need both of these schools,” Bradley said.
Texas lawmakers spent over two-thirds of 2023 in Austin. What did they accomplish?
The big picture: With a 140-day regular legislative session and four special sessions in 2023, Texas lawmakers spent more time in Austin than any prior years.
However: Less than one-third of Texas voters were confident that the Legislature solved key problems during its 246 days at the Capitol, according to a recent poll of 1,200 registered voters.
A closer look: Lawmakers struggled throughout the year to cut property taxes, increase state support for public school teachers, tighten border security and more. Republican Gov. Greg Abbott’s top priority, known as private school vouchers, did not pass.
